SAP Synchronization Management

Easy, Reliable, and Automated Synchronization of Parallel SAP Development Systems.

More and more companies implement 5-system landscapes in order to minimize the risk of changes affecting their productive SAP systems (see figure). This means adding another release landscape with its own development system (DEV’) and quality assurance system (QAS’) to their traditional 3-system landscape (DEV, QAS, PRD).

Having parallel SAP development systems allows companies to separate their maintenance operations with its short-notice changes from the long-term development efforts involved in new releases. This means new releases can be prepared without jeopardizing the availability of productive SAP systems. The challenge here is to synchronize the release landscape with the maintenance landscape to reflect any changes made and to prevent any errors that have already been corrected during maintenance from finding their way back into production systems once a new release is rolled out.

Our Solution

The Synchronization Management module in theGuard! SmartChange is an easy-to-use and reliable solution that automates the synchronization of parallel SAP development systems.

"The number of incidents dropped to an all-time low after the go-live of the support packages. With a reduction of incidents by more than half and 90% less manual labor, the implementation of the Synchronization Management module paid off within its first year." (Hans Wolferseder, head of the SAP Basis team at Stadtwerke München (Munich City Utilities))

Feature Summary

Automated Analysis and Categorization of Objects

The solution integrates seamlessly with SAP and analyzes all Workbench and Customizing objects that leave the development system of the maintenance landscape when a transport request is released and exported. These are then automatically categorized into "non-critical" and "critical" objects – depending on whether they can be synchronized from the development landscape to the release landscape simply by means of a transport, or whether they require manual synchronization within the release landscape.

Automatic Provision of Transport Requests for "non-critical" Objects

The results of the object analysis are presented in an overview. From here, users can package all objects that can be synchronized by means of a transport and initiate an automatic synchronization process.

Assistance in the Manual Synchronization of "critical" Objects

In order to accelerate the comparison and synchronization of any remaining Workbench objects that require manual intervention, users are provided with the corresponding, object-specific delta views. The Customizing analysis provides a detailed overview of any differences in Customizing objects, views and tables.

Your Advantages at a Glance

The Synchronization Management module in theGuard! SmartChange provides maximum automation, enabling you to minimize the need for manual intervention when synchronizing parallel development systems and to free up valuable resources.

Built-in checks, for example to identify dependencies between objects, are available to improve the security and quality of the synchronization process.

The synchronization progress is displayed in the respective dashboard and any changes are logged to provide a full audit trail.

The solution can be up and running within a matter of days. It is simple to configure and scales easily.
