Optimize business processes and operating costs
As is shown by an analysis by Meta Group Deutschland, the top priority for IT managers is to optimize operating costs and business processes. By specifically adapting IT to accommodate business processes, they hope to reduce operating costs while increasing the efficiency of IT.

Make the value of IT transparent
Many companies are paying increasing attention to identifying the operating costs that can be attributed to IT. By consolidating and optimizing IT, operating costs can be reduced while at the same time improving quality and increasing the benefits of IT environments. Companies need to make the value of their IT transparent.

Put IT budgets to optimum use
On average, overall IT costs make up between two and eight percent of total revenue.
As a result of the continuing economic malaise, increasing numbers of companies are being forced to cut their IT budgets.
Experience shows IT budgets to be made up as follows:
- 10 percent is attributed to innovation projects
- 30 percent is attributed to application operation
- 60 percent is attributed to technical operation
An effort needs to be made to restructure these budgets because, especially with regard to innovation and new implementation, it is becoming increasingly important for companies to make investments so that they are able to adjust to ever-changing market conditions. Investing in innovation is the only way for companies to boost and retain their competitive edge.
