realTech AG setting up a subsidiary in Spain
Technical SAP R/3 consulting company from Walldorf going public in the "Neuer Markt" segment - Listing proceeds to be invested in profit-oriented growth, the tapping of new foreign markets and stepping up R&D
As of April 1, 1999, realTech AG, Walldorf, a technical IT consulting firm operating worldwide and specializing in consulting services concerning the design, implementation and operation of SAP R/3 systems, is setting up a subsidiary in Spain, realTech system consulting S.L., fully owned by realTech Germany and with its registered office to be located in Madrid. José Pablo de Pedro has been appointed Managing Director of this new company. Working previously as a system consultant, Pablo de Pedro was the IT Manager for SAP in Spain. On the occasion of Pablo de Pedro's appointment, Markus Adam, CEO of realTech AG, underlined that it was part of realTech's corporate philosophy to include experts from the respective country in the management team of their foreign subsidiaries.
realTech system consulting S.L. will be the seventh subsidiary outside Germany. With its formation, the realTech group can now offer qualified technical support to R/3 users in Spain. realTech's expansion to the Spanish market is part of the consistent realization of its growth strategy. The Spanish company will commence its business operations on April 1, 1999 with a staff of seven, all of them technical R/3 consultants. By the end of this year, the number of employees will be increased to a total of 10. Potential customers of realTech system consulting S.L. in Spain include large-scale enterprises in particular and small to medium-sized companies in growing numbers. There are approx. 1,000 SAP R/3 systems installed at more than 400 customers in Spain.
The parent company of realTech system consulting S.L., realTech AG, Walldorf, is going public on the "Neuer Markt" segment of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in April, 1999. The proceeds from listing will be used to fund realTech's growth-oriented corporate strategy aiming for continuous expansion, in particular the tapping of new markets abroad. Under this strategy, the establishment of another 10 to 15 subsidiaries is planned over the next five years as well as strategic acquisitions in Germany and abroad. Some of the listing proceeds will be invested in R&D in order to expand realTech's range of products in the field of application management tools.
Some of the Important Features

theGuard! now monitors ADABAS D databases
realTech AG displays the new neatures of theGuard! ¾ for the frictionless operation of R/3 Systems
realTech AG displayed the new features of its SAP R/3 add-ons the TransportManager and theGuard! at CeBIT ‘99 in Hannover (Halle 2, C 02). theGuard! ensures the smooth operation of R/3 Systems and now monitors ADABAS D databases along with the ABAP/4 Suite. This tool unifies the functions of a central monitoring solution (single point of control) with the ability to send comprehensive messages (theGuard! Alert Engine). Due to the simple installation and use, the tool is not just for large-sized companies; it is also interesting for mid-sized companies. Another attractive aspect is the small up-front cost and the quick amortization of these costs. With open interfaces, the electronic monitor can easily be integrated into existing enterprise management solutions.
Access within seconds in the case of deviations
The mission critical application R/3 as well as the integrated operating system and databases require permanent monitoring in order to ensure the highest possible performance and availability. With the new developments of theGuard!, the administrator can now monitor ADABAS D Databases in addition to ORACLE databases. The parameters that are critical for operation such as database capacity, log capacity, log segment capacity, the status of the automatic log backup (auto save log) as well as other important parameters are continually monitored and should any deviations occur, they are reported to the central console. Additionally, theGuard! provides the administrator with various reports, which he or she can use to recognize bottlenecks that could have a negative effect on the database performance. Parameters such as the number of logged on database users as well as the maximum number of SQL lock requests are also monitored. theGuard! also recognizes locks created internally in the database, checkpoint requests, the availability of utility tasks, block escalations and collisions, as well as the hit rate of the individual database puffers. The application management tool monitors the condition of R/3 Systems around the clock. An alarm is sounded should any errors occur in SAP R/3, the related database, the hardware, or the operating system, thus protecting the entire system from going down.
Freely definable escalation levels
Reaction profiles can be configured as needed for reporting errors per error status, system, and time (on/off shift). Possible reactions are:
· GSM short messages (TAP or UCP based, such as D1 D2, ePlus, SwissCom)
· Pager (numerical and alpha numerical)
· Non-standard pagers or SMS (via Skrip)
· EMail (MAPI and SMTP)
· Fax
· Windows NT Messaging Service (net send)
· Windows NT Eventlog
· realTech Notifier
The definition of the escalation level ensures that the errors that occur can be properly processed.
The architecture of theGuard!
theGuard! consists of two main components: theGuard!‘s monitoring console and the agents that are installed on all systems that are to be monitored. Each guardAgent provides important information to the console in defined intervals. The agents can be used with the following platforms: Windows NT (Intel and Alpha), HP/UX, AIX, Solaris, Digital UNIX, and Reliant UNIX (SINIX). The console requires the Windows NT (Intel) platform.

realTech expands its remote services
realTech AG is a new Early Watch partner of SAP AG - Certified Consultant for Early Watch sessions and performance Analyses
As a new Early Watch partner of SAP AG, realTech of Walldorf has expanded its remote services for the administration and monitoring of R/3 Systems. Certified realTech consultants also take care of performance analyses for R/3 customers in addition to the Early Watch sessions. Access is carried out via an ISDN connection or direct via the Internet. Thus, R/3 customers can maintain certain maintenance and support precautions remotely. The Remote Services ensure the smooth operation of R/3 Systems and lower its total cost of ownership. Technical problems that can cause the R/3 Systems to be down for hours or days are recognized quickly and avoided with quick preventative measures. Additionally, realTech customers can obtain comprehensive knowledge via realTech‘s Remote Consulting Services.
Always up to date
Among the duties taken care of by realTech is the daily checking of R/3 Systems for possible error sources. The system overview includes CCMS alarms, database checks, R/3 system logs, dump analyses, and CPU usage. This allows the early detection of problems and their prompt elimination. Additionally, the availability and the performance of R/3 production systems is increased. Standard administrative tasks are carried out remotely by realTech. This includes the importing of hot packages, the installing of core patches, client copies, transports, printer setup, creating new users, and the monitoring of backups.
Alarm is also a solution
Should the customer choose to use the Remote Monitor Services, the monitoring tool, theGuard! will immediately contact the team on call remotely in the case of serious system errors. This is carried out per SMS messaging to the mobile phone of the realTech consultant. CCMS alarms occur in the case of ABAP short dumps, update cancellations, and SQL errors. realTech can promptly eliminate these problems, thus increasing the availability of all affected R/3 servers. theGuard! can also be put to use for complete free space monitoring and to ensure a excellent database operation. realTech offers three monitoring packages: the monitoring package consisting of support from 8 am to 5 pm on workdays; the night monitoring package, 24 hours a day, workdays; the full monitoring package for 24 hour monitoring 7 days a week.
Cut Costs
The Remote Administration Services provide a complete R/3 environment at a fixed price. The costs incurred by the company can thus be calculated exactly. With Remote Services, additional costs such as travel expenses are not incurred by the R/3 consultants nor are long waiting periods by the companies. Another advantage is the synergy created, since the consultants are able to maintain more system landscapes and can localize potential problems quicker. They are thus always informed about the current system status. Internal company support has to first be trained in order to be able to assist with support functions.

The glorious four manage the fastest growing company in Europe: realTech AG of Walldorf, SAP R/3 support experts.
For the management board meetings of Daimler-Chrysler AG at Stuttgart, its members fly in from Berlin, Munich and Detroit, adding up a total of some 30,000 air miles between them.
When realTech AG calls a meeting of its Board of Management, its four members can simply stay at their desks and start conferring since they all work in the same office anyway. And this office is nowhere near the ballroom-size of the Daimler-Chrysler management offices. realTech's bosses make do with 269 sq. feet between the four of them.
They had more room available around their desks when they were still employed with SAP. "Today, however, we have more room for decision-making and, after all, its more fun to be your own boss," assures Markus Adam, spokesman of the managing board. His three colleagues express their agreement by knocking on their desktops like German students would do.
This informal atmosphere is by no means limited to the management office of this software company of Walldorf. The relationship between the managers and their staff is just as relaxed. Mr. Adam reports: "We are all on first name terms." Once a month, the whole staff goes out for a nice dinner in an elegant restaurant at the company's expense. "These little highlights are invaluable for the motivation of our employees," as the co-founder of realTech is aware. No hierarchical attitudes in dealing with their staff, a desire for self-realization through success, all their energies focussed determinedly on technological excellence, coming across as very self-confident in international business, and all this combined with nonchalant youthfulness (all the members of realTech's managing board are in their late twenties or early thirties) - there is a new generation of entrepreneurs, ready to turn the bits-and-bytes business into a gigantic machine creating growth and jobs.
Mr. Adam's realTech is making a major contribution to keep this machine running in Germany, much looked down upon as an industrial location. In 1998, realTech was awarded a price in a Europe-wide ranking ("Europe's 500") as the company with the highest growth rate. Its 97/94 rise in sales: 169,900% - a bizarre figure since the company was only started in December 1994. But who wants to know all the details, it is success that counts.

Europe's Job Machine
Also in 1998, the members of the "Europe's 500" club were able to notch up some tremendous achievements: The top 500 enterprises have created a total of 200,000 new jobs to date - a truly encouraging commitment. Among the five final winners, there are three German companies keeping the flag flying.

Founder of realTech: Rainer Schmidt, Markus Adam, Daniele di Groce and Peter Stier
"With impressive numbers of jobs created, they are spreading a sense of a new era about to dawn, notwithstanding aggravated circumstances", said Bernd Pischetsrieder, CEO of BMW, last year, praising the members of Europe's 500. The German members really took the cake in 1998, with SAP from Walldorf coming out on top in the category of more than 12,000 new jobs and total sales of ECU 1,5 billion (1 ECU = DM 1.96).
However, besides this noted software giant, the shooting star of 1998 was Realtech System Consulting with a sales increase of no less than 169,900%. In less than four years since its formation by four former SAP consultants, this company has created 140 jobs in the wake of that multi-system. By the year 2000, this number is forecast to grow to 350. As a final result, realTech AG can record sales of over DM 30 million in 1998.
It is therefore not surprising that realTech's activities have already been organized under the umbrella of a holding corporation. This year, the company founders intend to apply for listing - surely a good tip for bargain hunters.
While the other winners like the British The Finalist Group (auto parts) according to the Birch index (see box below) and the Irish company Iona Technologies (object-oriented software) in terms of their emploment growth rates have splendid records, the outcome for German enterprises is truly a reason to be proud. A total of eight companies are among the top 50 according to the Birch index and in terms of jobs created; in terms of employment growth rate, there are twelve. The index by total sales lists eleven German enterprises and seven by the criterion of sales growth rate (relative to a total of 107 members). They will be among those to receive congratulations on their success by Tony Blair, British Prime Minister and guest of honor at the conference in March.
Europe's 500 outstanding entrepreneurs have increased their cumulative sales from ECU 11.5 billion in 1992 to ECU 34 billion in 1997, creating at total of 181.000 jobs. Taking the 1997 figures as a basis, the Birch index identified the 50 most successful German companies among the members of Europe's 500 club.
The David Birch Employment Growth Index combines relative and absolute values. The index shows the absolute difference in employment figures between 1996 and 1991 as the reference year, when the index was first issued, multiplied by last year's headcount, divided by the 1991 employment figure.
