Walldorf, June 5, 2002 – REALTECH AG, a leading provider of technology consulting and software solutions for applications and systems management, has launched Release 5.0 of theGuard! NetworkManager. This product is the only vendor-independent software that automatically recognizes network components from diverse manufacturers. It provides administrators with a precise graphical representation of the hardware components in their network. As a Windows-based solution, theGuard! NetworkManager integrates into existing IT systems with ease. The modular software can also be tailored to the customer’s specific requirements. A central user interface enables administrators to manage all their network components. This is made possible by over 250 product-specific modules (PSMs), developed in-house by REALTECH – and new PSMs continue to be added. Core functionality includes automatically generated and maintained network topologies, monitoring of network load and of system and network services, as well as various availability analyses.
Release 5.0 of theGuard! NetworkManager also boasts a number of entirely new features:
New database concept
The newly implemented CORBA architecture enables full platform independence, allowing many different types of database to be used. To date, MS Access and MS SQL databases have been implemented. If required, REALTECH can cater for other database types in approximately four weeks.
Integration into theGuard! System Management Suite
theGuard! System Management Suite – comprising theGuard! ApplicationManager, theGuard! NetworkManager, theGuard! InventoryManager and theGuard! Helpdesk – is a comprehensive range of products for end-to-end management of networks, systems and applications. When used together in the suite, the individual theGuard! components make for more efficient fault detection and root cause analysis. Fault correlation is used to filter out knock-on effects, allowing the administrator to focus on the underlying cause. The System Management Suite is therefore a cutting-edge application for visualizing and corre-lating information on networks, the operating system, database, and mission-critical applications such as mySAP components. Comprehensive functionality supports root cause analysis and rapid, structured problem resolution.
New performance monitor
Intelligent data compression (automatic data compression, deletion, and archiving) guarantees that the size of the active database containing long-term statistics remains constant, ensuring high systems availability and optimum resource usage. Response times are recorded, allowing systems availability to be monitored. Automatically generated reports will soon be available for this purpose.
Integration of SAP Solution Manager
The REALTECH solution can also send alerts to the SAP Solution Manager. This increases the information available to the SAP Solution Manager, which measures response times in SAP R/3, and does not itself gather network information. If the SAP Solution Manager reports that a server is no longer responding, and theGuard! NetworkManager simultaneously indicates that a predefined threshold value has been exceeded, the fault can be localized and resolved far more quickly.
Enhanced network monitoring functions
Release 5.0 now also allows Windows network functions to be monitored. All active components are initially identified and classified (discovery stage). In addition to TCP ports for a wide range of network services (FTP, SMTP, TELNET, etc.), theGuard! NetworkManager can now also identify Web servers and monitor individual Web sites.
