EADS and REALTECH supply theGuard! Network Management Center for the German Army's mobile communications system

REALTECH has received a six-figure contract from EADS to provide the German Army with network and service management software

Walldorf, January 22, 2008 - REALTECH AG, manufacturer of network and system management software and SAP consultancy, was awarded a major contract by EADS Defence & Security to supply software for the German Army's mobile communications system (MobKommSysBw).

With an order volume of almost € 14 million, the overall project, which was awarded to EADS, is one of the largest procurement projects to be undertaken by the German Army (Bundeswehr) in recent years for tactical communications systems. The MobKommSysBw system consists of the network segment that is to be supplied and the transmission segment consisting of radio relay equipment already installed with the Bundeswehr.

In the MobKommSysBw project for mobile, tactical networks, the Bundeswehr is for the first time relying entirely on IP-based civil communications standards. The network segment is the central element and enables network-centric operations to be carried out at all command levels, using links with the home country, allies and partners. The contract is thus extremely important for Bundeswehr missions. This is one of the reasons why high-availability, flexibility, and rapid troubleshooting in particular have gained considerable importance.

A sub-project was created to explicitly deal with these issues. The contract for this sub-project was awarded to REALTECH AG with its theGuard! Service Management Center components theGuard! NetworkManager and theGuard! ServiceDesk.

The main components include the equipment for a fixed Network Operation Center, ten mobile network management teams, the associated training equipment, training services and documentation. The network segment covers the Initial Operation Capability (IOC) for the broadband traffic of the Joint Support Service.

The Bundeswehr will equip its central Network Operation Center (NOC) as well as its mobile units with the central components of theGuard! Service Management Center. The Bundeswehr's broadband traffic will be monitored with theGuard! NetworkManager, the modules Process Management and Provisioning will be used to satisfy operational command, control, and planning needs.

First deliveries are planned for February 2008.
