Business Process Management – transparency, optimization, control

Business Process Management (BPM) is gaining increasing significance in today's IT age.

This is due to the combination of Business Service Management (BSM) and IT Service

Management (ITSM). The primary objective of Business Process Management is to better harmonize the actual day-to-day business activities with the IT organization. To do so, it is essential to determine how business processes depend on the underlying IT services and how potential interruptions might affect them. This is where Business Process Monitoring as the central element of Business Process Management comes in, giving IT officers and managers an end-to-end view of their IT infrastructure.

Structured Information through Business Maps

Business Process Management
The Business Views of the Business Process Management enable the comprehensive and structured visualization of business processes. Status information from the IT infrastructure and additional business-relevant process data (e.g. from ERP systems) are analyzed and visualized in real-time by means of rule-based status correlation features. You will be able to keep a close eye on your networks, systems, applications, and processes via a "single point of control".
The Business Maps can be displayed in a Web browser.  It is, for example, possible to visualize the availability of a business process for internal business purposes through integration with a company's intranet.
External process data such as ERP data can be transparently and easily integrated into the Business Process Management, regardless of the source or type of data. Using a standardized XML interface, external data is imported periodically, normalized, and then processed like the company's own data. The protocol employed is the SOAP protocol, which is an established element of many Web services.

Real-time Business Process Monitoring

Business Process Management benefits significantly from this simplified handling: The dependency of individual work processes on the IT landscape can be transparently displayed which, in turn, reduces operating costs. It is the comprehensive monitoring of IT components and their utilization that enables companies to meet the most challenging task in system management – the monitoring of entire business processes. Possible effects of a system failure can be precisely determined. The utilization of IT resources by a department or by individual users can be traced. By monitoring the mission-critical system groups, it can be determined whether the required response times were met from a user's point of view. What's more, the root cause analysis that is performed if errors occur is significantly accelerated – the timely recognition of infrastructure problems reduces average downtimes.
