MaxDB as a mission-critical database
MaxDB databases manage application data in terabyte size. Application security, stability and performance are heavily dependent on the availability and throughput of simultaneous access to the database instances. MaxDB (formerly SAP DB) is one of the possible relational databases for SAP and is the only supported database for various SAP components (APO: LiveCache, KW).

MaxDB is a professional RDBMS with corresponding storage units on disks, corresponding processes and memory / cache structures in order to efficiently manage users and their access.
System behavior is determined by the settings of various configuration parameters and settings of catalogue and environment variables. All of these units have to be permanently monitored and analyzed in order to guarantee safe operation and efficient use of existing resources.
