What counts as a configuration item (CI)?

CIs subject to a license:

  • Hardware products (IT and non-IT objects; e.g. also data center components, machines, office equipment, etc.)
  • Software products
  • Articles in self-created CI categories at the top hierarchy level

Note: The license requirement is independent of the CI’s life cycle status, i.e. archived CIs are also subject to licensing. However, if CIs are deleted, the CI license is cleared again.

CIs that do not require a license:

  • Documents, contracts, license files, etc.
  • Financial data (e.g. cost centers)
  • Organizations (customers, individuals, groups, companies, manufacturers, suppliers)
  • Processes
  • Locations (e.g. buildings, rooms, stores)
  • Service portfolios (e.g. service objects in the service catalog)
  • Knowledge articles (e.g. knowledge base entries)
Asset & Configuration Management
  • Basic Onboarding: 2 one-hour web sessions + 1 week of chat support
  • Basic Support: via online service desk; service times according to general terms and conditions (GTC)

* An agent is a supporter account, the IT specialist who handles tickets. End users are free of license fees for an unlimited period.
